Olympic Victories

Hey Todo! How are you all doing! 

We had a crazy week. Me and my comp planned an activity with the zone called the Mormon Olympics! It was so cool! We invited all of the youth from Madryn and did our own olympics. The first night (Friday, we started at 7) we got everyone in the chapel and divided all of the youth into 1 of 6 countries (Portugal, Italy, South Africa, Canada, Jamaica, and Japan) Then they had to choose olympians for each event. We played volley ball, football, tennis and ping pong. It was super fun! 

My comp and I made the tournaments and everything. Then, the first night while we were playing, the lights cut in half of the city. So we all had to finish early. But we kept going Saturday morning and did all of the finals, and a barbecue. But yeah, It was really fun. There were about 70 youth, actives, less actives and investigators. It was a blast.

When It finished I was so exhausted, but it was so worth it!

Pancakes For The Win!

Hey Team! We had another cool week up here in Madryn! 

We had a cool experience down here. There is a family called la familia Machado. All of the kids are members, but the parents aren't. The parents have never wanted any thing to do with the church. When ever the Elders would go over to teach, the mom would either make them teach outside, or she would leave the house. The Elders never really even had the chance to teach her. 

This week, we went by the house, and by a miracle one of the kids let us in, and the parents were there. We just started talking with them, becoming their friends. Their job is they make churros, and sell them in the street. I Told the Hermana, "Lets make a deal, If you teach me how to make churros, I will teach you how to make american pancakes." (Argentine pancakes are more like crepes.) She agreed, and we went over this Thursday and did it. I don't want to brag, but I will a little - I made them some bomb diggity pancakes. And they taught us how to make churros, and it was super cool!

While we were eating, the mom said, "Wow, you guys are pretty much the first Elders that I've received in the house since I've been here." She said that she had a fun time and would like to do another family home evening! It was awesome!! We were able to give her "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" and invite here to read it.

So I learned two things:

1. How to make some bomb churros, (totally going to start a business when I get back)
2. All of our talents are important. Who would think that pancake making could help with sharing the gospel? It totally can! Just remember, God is so smart. He can do wonders with us if we let him.

No Wifi On The Transfer Bus

No email this week. Elder Himes was too busy with a transfer. He is going from Ushuaia to Puerto Madryn.

Remember a while back when he had to travel from Ushuaia to Comodoro Rivadavia and back and he thought that was a long trip? Well, this is even longer.

He is going from the southern most point in the mission (or the world according to some) to the northernmost area.

Good luck in the new area! (Where, by the way, he will be a new Zone Leader!)

Full Fledged Argentinian!

I am a true Argentinian now. After drinking mate for a week, I am real. I feel really good. 

We had a really good week! The new president came down to Ushuaia to meet all of us. He is a really nice guy. We all got together to meet him, and then were able to have interview this week! It was great. 

My comp and I had a cool miracle this week. This last Monday, we decided to leave to go to work a little bit early we left the pension at 5:15 to go contacting. The very first person that we talked to was a young kid named Dante. We told him what we did, and asked if we could teach him some day. And he said 'yes'! Then we asked him were he lived and he said, I'll just walk with you to it. He turned completely around and walked with him for ten minutes to his house. Were were then able to teach him the plan of salvation! It was great!

What I learned is that when we sacrifice a little bit for the Lord, he blesses us so much more. We sacrificed 45 minutes of P-day, and he blessed us with a new person to teach!

One Year and Mate

Hey team! So, as many of you know. We have changed mission presidents. I've served with President Rogers for one year, and now I will serve with Presidente Salerno for the other year. (This week the 15th I complete one year, So if you all  want to send me a birthday cake or something you can.) 

But we have seen a few changes in the mission. The biggest is that we can drink mate now! Mate is a traditional Argentinan drink that everyone drinks! Like, everyone. But we couldn't. So I passed one year watching everyone drink it wondering what it tastes like. 

But Now, we can drink it in the pension. I tried it for the first time in my life the other day... It was interesting. But Im going to keep drinking until I love it. And then I will make mate a thing in the USA!

In other new! Julia, an investigator of the Hermanas got baptized! That was awesome! She is really cool, and she asked If I would baptize her! I had to remember all 5 of her names for the prayer. It was a really spiritual baptism though!

Happy 4th of July

Hey Team! To celebrate the 4th of July down here in Ushuaia, we had a blizzard last night. It was literally so darn cool walking back to the pension last night in a snow storm. Goodness! Its not all that cold today, but everything is covered in snow. 

This week we had a pretty cool experiences. We were out trying to visit a few investigators, but no one was home, so We decided to go visit some members. We got there and started chatting. Then, literally about 7 minutes later the member's brother walked in with a friend. He just arrived in Ushuaia that morning and was super interested in the church. We gave him a Book of Mormon. and invited him to church. And... HE CAME! He came to church this Sunday and loved it! It was such a miracle!

Goodness team. Miracles are real. You just need to look for them! Thanks for being the best team ever! Keep being awesome, keep praying! I love you all!
